Sands of Time: The Secrets and False Gods of Sohterra

Adjust your turbans, shake the dust off your boots, and accept my greetings straight from the desert! Nina here, your capybara archaeologist, historian, and official Kakele correspondent!

If you thought the desert held nothing but cacti and mirages, get ready! Today I traded fresh grass for a shovel and dug deep into Sohterra’s buried ruins to bring you the story of the pharaohs’ empire, its obsessive quest for immortality, and the mysteries that shaped our continent.

Ancient Knowledge and the Search for Eternal Life
#

Long before it was swallowed by the dunes, Sohterra was the birthplace of alchemy and astrology. The heart of this knowledge lay in the Upper Duct, a colossal sanctuary where masters kept esoteric scrolls and studied the secrets of the skies and the depths of the earth.

Society revolved around a single goal: unraveling the mystery of immortality. It was in this setting that Isis, a woman of unparalleled mystical devotion, attained the powers of a true goddess. Revered in temples filled with hieroglyphs as the key to harmony between life and water, she spread her messages across the desert through winged harpies with melodious voices.

Tragedies Atop the Pyramids and the Origins of the Egipdy Clan
#

The empire was not built on wisdom alone. Macabre sacrificial rituals were held atop the pyramids in honor of Sobek. During one of these ceremonies, Aaron Egipdy’s firstborn son was sacrificed.

Consumed by grief, Aaron marched alone through the desert amid a devastating sandstorm. Not only did he survive, but he also found fertile lands and founded the legendary Egipdy Clan, pledging his loyalty to the new king and preserving, to this day, blood ties and secret records of ancient Sohterra.

The False God’s Coup and the Abominations of the Desert
#

Sohterra’s final downfall began inside the Upper Duct itself. Sobek, a reclusive orphaned acolyte, studied forbidden rituals and combined alchemy with the sacrifice of prisoners to gain dark powers. He marched to the main pyramid, dethroned the pharaoh, and proclaimed himself the empire’s new god.

Sobek’s tyranny left terrible marks that remain among the ruins to this day:

  • The Djinns: Entities born from the souls devoured by Sobek, divided into green and blue djinns.
  • Sobek’s Cultists: Nobles who pledged their loyalty in exchange for the promise of eternal life, but were transformed into abominations with scaly skin and reptilian eyes, their feet rooted forever in the city’s soil.
  • Tutankamae: The deposed former pharaoh became a cursed black mummy. When intruders violate his tomb, he awakens and unleashes sandstorms across the desert.
  • Bahsilisko: This colossal serpent lives on the second floor of the main pyramid, blind to sunlight. It commands Sohterra’s snakes and petrifies anyone who dares look into its eyes at night.

Dark Mysticism and the Collapse Beneath the Dunes
#

As if mummies and reptilian tyrants were not enough, inscriptions on the pyramid walls suggest even more intriguing theories: the structures may have been built with the help of spaceship technology!

As its protections weakened and Sobek’s rituals caused successive magical collapses, relentless sandstorms buried the Kingdom of Sohterra. Today, only brave explorers and renowned archaeologists such as Indina Jonas venture into the catacombs in search of these lost treasures.

A Portrait of the Ancient Ages
#

Sohterra’s rise and fall did not happen in a vacuum. The empire is part of a rich tapestry of primordial civilizations that have shaped Kakele since the cosmic explosion caused by the creation of the goddess Pi:

  • Eldorado: The prosperous golden city of the Dragon Tamers, ruined after a curse drove the Golden Dragon mad and an earthquake swallowed the civilization.
  • Cyclopia: The home of the Primordial Cyclopes created by Cos, who shaped the giant Colossus to protect the sacred scriptures before the world’s decline.
  • Jarathorn and Walfendah: The elven realm of the City of Stars and the Rainbow Bridge, built by the heroine Elora long before the wars against orcs and the darkness.
  • Moira: The impregnable fortress of the dwarves and their legendary forges, the setting of the historic War of the Axes.
  • Saint Mardi: The island whose ancient devotion to the light was corrupted by greed for gold and Queen Rita’s madness.

Sohterra’s history reminds us that the unrestrained pursuit of power and immortality almost always ends in curses and ruin. What was once an empire of master alchemists and golden temples is now one of the most dangerous and fascinating places to explore in our world.
